Brenda K. Hughey

Brenda Kay Hughey, ‘Momma and Nanny’, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Tahlequah, OK. She was born on January 5, 1959 to Henry Allen and Lillian Arita Fiji Crittenden in Muskogee, OK. She attended school at both Hilldale Elementary and Warner High School. While still in high school she met the love of her life, Virgil Leonard Hughey on February 13, 1976 and they were married shortly after on August 27, 1976 in Muskogee, OK. They were happily married for 45 years and lived most of their lives on her family’s original farm in Warner, OK. She worked at various factories and restaurants in her younger years until she suffered a back injury that ended her days in the workforce. She enjoyed riding horses when she was younger, playing bingo, hitting jackpots at the local casino, and buying everything QVC had to offer. She was an amazing cook and prepared many meals for her family and friends. She had a wonderful, warming smile and a laugh that would brighten even the darkest day. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was very protective of her family. She loved her family more than anything and was a mother to more than just her own boys. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Arita Crittenden; father, Henry Allen Crittenden; mother-in-law, Lola Mae Hughey; father-in-law, Gordon Lee Hughey, sister, Doris Barnes; and sister-in-law, Cleta Phillips. She leaves behind her husband, Virgil Leonard Hughey of Warner, OK; sons, Virgil Allen Hughey and wife Michelle Renee of Warner, OK, Dustin Shane Hughey and wife Michelle Lynn of Warner, OK, Mark Leonard Hughey and wife Leah of Warner, OK; sisters, Vicki Crowder and husband Calvin of Fort Gibson, Janice Hicks and husband Johnny of Oktaha, OK; niece and honorary daughter, Crystal Richerson and husband Ryan of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren, Cameron Hughey, Connor Hughey and fiancé Hailey Cole, Bailey Hughey, Alli Hughey, Emmi Hughey and Calli Hughey; honorary grandchildren, Sarah and Sam Kusler, Alshee and Trey Gatzman, Austin and Ali Fletcher, Austin Richerson, Kyler Richerson, and Easton Richerson; great-grandchildren, Emery Hughey and Kinley Hughey; honorary great-grandchild, Jaxon Fletcher. Funeral services celebrating Brenda’s life will be 2pm, Monday, September 13, 2021 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kelly Payne officiating. Interment will follow graveside at McClain Cemetery in Martin, OK. Pallbearers include: Virgil Hughey, Virgil Allen Hughey, Dustin Hughey, Mark Hughey, Cameron Hughey, Connor Hughey, and Austin Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers include: Johnny Hicks, Eldon Bailey, Ryan Richerson, Trey Gatzman, Kenneth Girty, and Daniel Owens.
