James Haskell “Jim” Gibson, 80, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. He was born on August 6, 1940 to William Gibson and Gertrude (Carr) Gibson in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Jim graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the Class of 1958. He served in the United State Army as a sergeant from 1961-1964 and received an honorable discharge. While he was in the service, he worked as a chemist assistant in the medical lab. He also was a pitcher for the Army baseball team. Later, Jim worked in the crime lab at the FBI in Washington D.C., before transitioning to sales and marketing positions at various trucking companies. Jim retired from Trucks For You in 2008. Jim married the love of his life, Connie Joyce Slay, on July 6, 1963. They shared 58 years of marriage, life, family and memories together. He was a faithful member of Muskogee First Baptist Church for over 45 years where he served as a deacon and a teacher in the Children’s Ministry. Jim’s love of baseball gave him opportunities to serve as an umpire. In 2006 he was inducted to the Oklahoma State Association Hall of Fame for Umpires. Jim enjoyed driving the golf cart as he volunteered at Muskogee St. Francis Hospital. He also loved to golf and fish, especially with his grandkids. Some of his favorite times were watching and supporting his grandkids in all their activities. Jim will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gertrude Gibson. Jim is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters, Cathy Hook and husband Jamie of Edmond, OK, and Kellie Aylor and husband Brad of Owasso, OK; brother, Billy Gibson and wife Mary of Plant City, FL, and Les Gibson and wife Faye of Eufaula, OK; grandkids, Mason and Micah Hook of Edmond, OK, Addison, Andrew and Austen Aylor of Owasso, OK; numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great nieces and many other family members and friends. Jim’s family will greet friends from 7:00PM-8:30PM on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 in the parlor at First Baptist Church of Muskogee. A celebration of Jim’s life will be at 10AM, Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Brad Aylor officiating and Jamie Hook singing. It was Jim’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church of Muskogee.
