John Francis Moore

April 10, 1938 - January 22, 2022

John Francis Moore, age 83, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022. John was born on April 10, 1938 to Earl T. and Mary Lucille Moore in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He received his education at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Muskogee through the 8th grade and the St. Joseph’s Preparatory Academy until it closed at the end of his junior year. He completed his senior year and graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1956. After high school, John completed two years at Muskogee Junior College and additional courses at the University of Tulsa. John worked for Oklahoma Press Publishing Company in Muskogee until joining the United States Air Force in February of 1961. After four years of service, he was honorably discharged in January of 1965. John was proud of his military service and could be seen wearing his Air Force veteran’s hat everywhere he went. After his Air Force service, he moved to Tulsa and worked for North American Aviation, but because of multiple layoffs he sought a new career. He went to work for Pan American Petroleum in 1967 as a 1st class trainee in their research department. Pan American transitioned to Amoco and then to BP Oil Company. John worked his way up to a senior programmer classification and retired from BP Oil Company on April 1, 1994 after 26 years of service and 9 days before his 56th birthday. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending holidays with family members. He was a member of his Amoco/BP retirees’ breakfast group that would meet every Tuesday morning to enjoy each other’s company. When he was no longer able to attend, there was always an empty chair at the table. John was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, and one nephew. He is survived by his six siblings, Marilyn Morgan of Muskogee, OK, Earl T. Moore and Faye of Muskogee, OK, Nancy Gibson of Overland Park, KS, Gayle Miller and Bill of Muskogee, OK, David Moore and Linda of Muskogee, OK, and Joe Moore and Bev of Tulsa, OK; 14 nieces and nephews; and many friends and coworkers from Amoco/BP. Funeral services will be 2:30PM, Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Cristler officiating. Interment will be 10AM, Monday, January 31, 2022 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be in John’s name to St. Joseph Catholic School, 323 N Virginia St, Muskogee, OK 74403.
