Mary Evelyn Nevitt

Mary Evelyn Nevitt, 93, of Muskogee, OK died October 23, 2019 at Pleasant Valley Healthcare Center. She was born September 1st, 1926 to Richard and Jennie Crossland in Webber Falls, OK. Mary grew up in Muskogee and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Muskogee Public Schools. Mary married Louis Nevitt on December 29, 1952 at Assumption Catholic Church, Muskogee. They made their home in Muskogee and owned and operated Nevitt Nursing Home. In February 1976 they opened Pleasant Valley Healthcare Center. Together Louis and Mary owned and operated Pleasant Valley until Louis’s death in 1990. Mary and her son Danny continued the operation of Pleasant Valley Healthcare Center and Pleasant Valley Retirement Apartments. Mary was a life long Catholic and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was active in the alter society until her health no longer permitted. Mary enjoyed time with her family. She loved to cook. Everyone was always welcome at her table. No one ever left hungry. Mary also enjoyed taking care of others and truly had a servant’s heart. To say she loved to shop, not just for her but others also, is a huge understatement. She loved gardening and her flowers. She kept her yard in immaculate condition. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Louis; an infant daughter; her sisters Margaret and Marie; and her brother Richard. She is survived by her son Danny and his wife Britton of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren Allison and her husband Jonathan Atwell of Bentonville, AR, Alex Nevitt of Ft. Smith, AR and Ashley Nevitt of Tahlequah, OK; two great grandchildren Britton and Lincoln Atwell. In addition, Mary is survived by brothers Roy Crossland and wife Jennie of Robstown, TX, Thomas Crossland of Tahlequah, OK and John Crossland and wife Betty of Muskogee, OK; sisters Kathy Palmer of Muskogee, OK, Barbara Richard of Ocean View, Hawaii; a special niece Barbara Mae Crossland and many nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends from 2 - 4 pm Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be Monday, October 28, 2019 at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Richard Cristler celebrant. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with Alex Nevitt, Jonathan Atwell, Joe Sommers, David Jones, Forrest Carpenter and Steve Grober serving as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers, Wendell Cox, Kevin Ferree and Joe Seabolt. The family would like to thank the employees of Pleasant Valley Healthcare for the wonderful care and love Mary received. Her family suggests donations to St. Joseph’s Catholic School in lieu of flowers in Mary’s honor.
