Melvin David Carter, 88, of Wagoner, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022. He was born on April 28, 1933 to Sam Carter and Augusta Cole in Hominy, Oklahoma. Melvin graduated from Hominy High School with the Class of 1952. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge. Melvin married the love of his life, Ann Mae (Butterball), on June 3, 1955 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared over 66 years of life, marriage and family together. Melvin worked for American Airlines as an electronics mechanic for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed going hunting and fishing, watching football and basketball, and loved gardening in his garden. Melvin loved his family very much and was extremely proud of his boys, George and David. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Sam Carter; mother, Augusta Cole; stepmother, Viola Carter; brother, James Carter; and sisters, Paulene Friend, Maxine Ammons, Thelma Page and Darlene Carter. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Ann Carter of Wagoner, OK; sons, George Carter and wife Denise of Okay, OK, and David Carter of Tulsa, OK; grandsons, Vernon Shaffer of Long Beach, CA, Darrell Shaffer of Chino Hills, CA, and Raymond Scott of Puyallup, WA; granddaughters, Jennifer Apple of Spokane, WA, Nicole Carter of Bartlesville, OK and Heather Carter of Bartlesville, OK; brothers, Sam Carter of Fort Gibson, OK, Dan Carter of Muskogee, OK, and Harold Carter of Muskogee, OK; sisters, Rosa Offutt of Muskogee, OK and Peggy Carter of Muskogee, OK; and many other family members and friends. A celebration of Melvin’s life will be 10AM, Monday, February 28, 2022 at Muskogee Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Rudy Juarez officiating. Interment will follow at Citizen’s Cemetery with Jeremy Hollifield, James Noblitt, Sam Carter, Ernie Hollifield, John Carter and Gabe Carter serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Carter and Ty Carter.
