Nelda Mae (Shaffer) Newberry, 81, passed away on July 17, 2021 in Muskogee, OK. She was born on November 17, 1939 to Albert Shaffer and Lola Shaffer in Milan, KS. Nelda married Allen Leroy Newberry on February 24, 1956, sharing many years together and having 4 wonderful daughters. Nelda grew up playing basketball for Milan High School. She loved watching college basketball and never missed March Madness. She loved to cook for her family; the most requested item being her famous crescent rolls. She enjoyed playing cards with her siblings and teaching her grandchildren how to play. She also loved doing crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen L Newberry; father, Albert J Shaffer; mother, Lola M Shaffer; brothers, Elvis Shaffer, Max Shaffer and sister, Ferol McMillan. Nelda is survived by her daughters, Kathy Kennedy and husband Terry of Muskogee, OK; Peggy Rich of Muskogee, OK; Patti Sallee and husband Brian (Tuffy) of Muskogee and Shelly Vance of Muskogee, OK; grandsons, Larry Kennedy and wife Amanda of Muskogee, OK; Mark Kennedy of Palm Springs, CA; Jeremy Rich and wife Lisa of Pueblo, CO; Matthew Rich and wife Jen of Bayfield, CO; Eric Ledbetter of Haskell, OK; Casey Ledbetter and wife Erin of Muskogee, OK; Brian Sallee and wife Samantha of Ft.Gibson, OK; Winston Sallee of Muskogee, OK; Grant Newberry and wife Amanda of Moore, OK and Cory Vance and wife Whitney of Lakewood, FL; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Fern Topham; brothers, Carl Shaffer, Dale Shaffer and Eddie Shaffer. Funeral services will be held at 10AM, Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Schaffer officiating. Pallbearers will be Larry Kennedy, Mark Kennedy, Jeremy Rich, Matthew Rich, Eric Leadbetter, Casey Ledbetter, Grant Newberry, Cory Vance , Brian Sallee and Winston Sallee.
