William Hayes "Bill" Matthews Jr Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dr. William Hayes “Bill” Matthews, Jr., 66, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021. He was born on July 4, 1955 to William Hayes Matthews, Sr. and Cornelia (Williams) Matthews in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy, attended Rhodes College for his bachelors degree, and later obtained his doctorate degree in Dentistry from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Bill ran his own dental practice in Nashville, TN for many years, and later worked for SeniorDent, specializing in assisted living facilities. He gave much of his free time to volunteering for the Bridges Out Of Poverty foundation, providing free denture work for those in need. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hiking, Cajun food, and traveling with his family. He was incredibly kind and had a warm heart when anyone needed it. He was a respected father, friend, and professional. He is loved and will be missed dearly by many that knew him. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Hayes Sr. and Cornelia Matthews. He is survived by his son, William Hayes Matthews, III of Muskogee, daughter, Reynolds Laine Matthews of Muskogee, OK; Their mother Leslie Leeds; cousins, Scott Williams of Nashville, TN, Bobbie Williams of Franklin, TN, Kenna, Terri and Barbara Williams; and many other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Dr. Bill Matthews, Jr. Dental Fund, Good Shepherd Clinic % St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2130 W Okmulgee St Muskogee, OK 74401. A celebration of Bill’s life will be 10AM, Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Bill Crow will be officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
