Brian G. McElmurry

Brian Gregory McElmurry, 40, of Porter, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016. He was born November 26, 1975 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Gary L McElmurry Sr and Connie L (Hopkins) McElmurry. Brian attended Okay Public Schools from 1979 to 1994 when he graduated. He continued his education at Indian Capitol Technology Center where he studied small engine repair with Mr. Hager as his teacher. Brian also graduated from Truck Driving School in Paducah, KY where he obtained his CDL. He worked for Davis H. Elliot Co. as a truck driver for many years; an occupation he truly enjoyed. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Immanuel Southern Baptist Church and later attended Porter Freewill Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his kids and family. Brian enjoyed listening to old country music, taking selfies, riding his motorcycle, embarrassing anyone he could, talking, working in the hay field, facebooking, and watching Nascar. He will always be remembered for bringing smiles to people’s faces. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harold McElmurry Sr; maternal grandparents, George and Janeth Hopkins; and his cousin, Harold “Trey” McElmurry III. Brian is survived by his parents, Gary L McElmurry Sr and Connie McElmurry of Wagoner; wife, Lyn McElmurry; his children, Cody, Carin, Clair, and Cyle, all of the home; his first grandson, Bentley Gregory, due in October; Dalton and wife Kelsie of Muskogee; grandmother, Gwen Rhoden of Broken Arrow; brother, Gary L McElmurry Jr and wife Sheila of Okay; niece, Jaime Courtney and her husband Jeff and their children, Ty, Ally, Morgan, and Sam; nephews, Elijah Yochum, Tristan Doyle and wife Jenny and their daughter, Lanie, Bryce McElmurry, Wyatt McElmurry, and Blake Miller; father-in-law, Michael Smith of Porter; mother-in-law, Vicki Smith of Porter; sister-in-law, Melissa Cole and her children, Joshua and Jadyn, all of Broken Arrow; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends who will miss him dearly. Funeral services honoring Brian’s life will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Okay School Gymnasium with Rev. Ron Forrest officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Porter, Oklahoma with Will Fowler, Michael Berry, Steven Pack, Jim Swafford, Dustin Allen, and Alvie Williams serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Porter Volunteer Fire Department, Fred Probst, Jeff Bookout, Terry Riley, Mike Cordell, Steven Echols, Nick Madewell, Austin Madewell, Sid Berry, Tracy Farar, Patrick Harmon, and Clarence Ashley.
