David Wayne Yandell

David “Dave” Wayne Yandell (otherwise known as Papa), of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, entered his eternal home in Heaven on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the age of 71. David was born December 16, 1954, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Joel Cecil Yandell and Audrey (Kelly) Yandell. He attended public schools and was a 1973 graduate of Tahlequah High School. Following high school, David went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam era. During his time of service, David was stationed in Germany and later received an honorable discharge. After being discharged, David continued service to his country with the National Guard in addition to working at the Department of Veteran Affairs in Muskogee, Oklahoma for the next 4 years where he met many life-long friends. On December 5, 1981, David married the love of his life Lori Ann Howard in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Together they shared more than 45 years of marriage full of life, love, two beautiful daughters, and so many cherished memories. David was a simple man who enjoyed fishing, playing and coaching softball, and watching OU softball and football. David devoted 30 years of his life working for Pepsi-Cola before retiring in 2010 to enjoy the rest of his days with his family. David will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his unconditional love for his wife Lori, his work ethic that is unmatched, and so many memories he established with friends and loved ones throughout his life. Papa will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in knowing that we will see him again! David was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Cecil and Audrey Yandell; aunt, Dorothy Yandell; brother, Nick Yandell; sister, Jan Brotherton; and niece, Carol Brotherton. David is survived by his beloved wife, Lori; daughters, Genny Swanson and husband Kevin of Muskogee, Ok, Jessica Yates and husband Austin of Jenks, Ok; grandchildren, Brooklynn Swanson, Rilynn Yates, Kynnli Yates, Aubrie Yates, and Carter Yates; along with many other family members and friends. A family memorial service conducted by Donald Nichols will be at 11AM, Monday, June 29, 2026 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with military honors being presented. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie Sawyer Jr, Kevin Swanson, and Austin Yates.
