Floyd W. Thompson

Floyd William Thompson of Muskogee, Oklahoma formerly of Electra, Texas passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the age of 80. He was born September 15, 1934 in Fisk, Missouri to Jacob Floyd Thompson and Effie Marie Parkins Thompson. Floyd attended Poplar Bluff High School where he enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball. He met Mary Lois Brady and knew she was the one for him. Thirteen days later they were married on January 25, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri. They soon discovered they grew up approximate 30 minutes apart. Floyd and Mary shared more than 52 years of marriage and life together. Floyd dearly loved Lois and called her his Gem and he was her Gemkeeper. Floyd proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from which he retired in February, 1975 after 21 ½ years of service. He later worked for Cryovac and retired in January, 1993. Floyd enjoyed gardening and raising animals. His family was very important to him and loved to spend time with them. He enjoyed attending Muskogee First Assembly of God where he was active with the children’s Smart School program during the summers. Floyd will be truly missed as everyone that knew him, loved him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lois (Brady) Thompson; his parents, Jacob Floyd and Effie Marie (Parkins) Thompson; his sisters, Helen Wick, Dorothy I. Dunn, Viola M. McCain, and Virginia McIntosh. Floyd is survived by his children, Gail Shoopman of Wichita Falls, TX, Eric Thompson and wife Carol of Muskogee, OK, Brad Thompson and wife Donna of Dalhart, TX; grandchildren, Jeremy Thompson and wife Edna of Wichita Falls, TX, Kimberly Shoopman of Conroe, TX, Christina Thompson of Bryan, TX, William Taylor of Navarre, FL, Eric Thompson Jr and wife Victoria of Electra, TX; great grandchildren, Landon Ponce and Nathaniel Thompson; great great grandchild, Lelan Westbrook; sisters, Avaleen Baker, Lucille and Clarence Howard, Glodeen Ritter, all of Collinsville, IL, and Maxine Johnson of St James, MO; many other family members and friends. A family conducted memorial service will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at First Pentecostal Church of God, 412 N Travis St, Wichita Falls, TX with Missionary Chrystella Workman officiating. Interment will follow at Electra Memorial Cemetery, next to his wife. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made in Floyd’s name to Now Generation c/o Muskogee 1st Assembly, 3100 Gulick, Muskogee. OK 74403.
