Freda D. Rolland

Freda Darlene Wiley Rolland left this world for her Heavenly home on March 12, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma following a traffic car wreck. She was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Ed and Reba (Lindsey) Wiley on July 4, 1933. She attended grade school while growing up in Sallisaw, Okay, and Wagoner, Oklahoma. Moving was routine for Freda due to her father working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Freda completed her junior high and high school years in Scott City, Kansas with the class of 1951. She loved Kansas and her classmates, regularly returning for her school reunions. This summer she would have attended her 70th year class reunion. Even telling the family that she could still drive herself to Kansas. Her love for Kansas would continue with her favorite color being blue, favorite flower a sunflower, and her favorite teams were, of course, from Kansas, which provided lots of good-natured family kidding. At the age of five, Freda would walk by herself to church, beginning her lifelong journey with her precious Lord and Savior. She has been a long time member of York Street Christian Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Freda had a strong faith and lived out her faith in her daily life. What a blessing it has been to have a Godly wife, mother, and grandmother. Freda would be embarrassed for us to say that she was the perfection of her roles as a wife, mom, aunt, and granny. She has set the standard high for our family to carry on. Freda met a handsome Navy boy while he was on leave. They knew each other six days before he had to return to his ship to be deployed. Corresponding for the next year, ended with a letter from that sailor asking Freda to marry him. Her return letter was a giant “YES”. Robert “Bob” Rolland and Freda were married in Braggs, Oklahoma on December 3, 1952. Bob and Freda have been a loving example of what God means for marriage for 68 treasured years. Raising their three daughters, as well as, a multitude of extended family. Everyone always knew they had a bed at Bob and Freda’s for as long as you needed one. Freda was born to be a “granny”. She adored her grandchildren without end. Her hobbies were whatever the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were doing. She rarely missed any event in their lives. They knew she loved them unconditionally. Beginning with the great-grands, Granny would call them when the moon was full and say when you see that big beautiful moon then you know Granny is thinking about you. Granny may have found even more joy collecting McDonald’s beanie babies for her grandchildren, much to the dismay of Grandpa Bob. They often had to drive to every McDonald’s in a 50 mile radius from Muskogee till she got all the ones she wanted. Granny would not take no for an answer if it was for her grandbabies. Many good stories and much laughter have been shared about their McDonald’s adventures. Granny was born on Independence Day 1933. Later in her life, an extra special joy was getting to share her birthday with granddaughter, Lindsey Allen Parnell. Many wonderful 4th of July extravaganzas have occurred over the years to celebrate a country that Freda loved and was so proud of, as well as their shared birthday. Freda, Mom, Granny, Aunt Freda will forever remain in the hearts of all those that knew this sweet, kind, caring lady. She was the crown jewel of our lives and we thank God for all the years he allowed us to love her. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Reba Wiley; sister, Shirley Bostick; brother, Bill Wiley; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Beulah Rolland; brothers-in-law, John Rolland, Randy Rolland, and Kelly Rolland, and Finis Lewis; sisters-in-law, Jackie Lewis, Terry Rolland, and Jo Evelyn Rolland. She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Rolland of the home; three daughters, Vicki (Gary) Garrison of Gore, OK, Robbi (Daryl) Cowan, and Terri (Abner) Miller, all of Muskogee; six grandchildren, Mark Jr (Brandy ) Ridley, Robert “Bo” (Tonya) Ridley, Megan (Lance) Powers, Nicholas (Rickie) Cowan, Lindsey (Major) Parnell, and Jesse Allen; two “chosen” grandchildren, Shan (Courtney) Royce and their family, Caleb, Sierra, and Cason, and Colton Harris; nine great-grandchildren, MyKenzie, Jamarian, Bode, Brylee, Kade, Kyler, Karsyn, Dawson, and Baby Cowan due in September; two great-great-grandchildren, twin girls, Remi and Rae; sisters-in-law, Sue Wiley and Thelma Terrell; along with numerous nephews, nieces, and other family members. A graveside service celebrating Freda’s life will be 2PM, Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Sallisaw City Cemetery with Jesse Allen, Nicholas Cowan, Bo Ridley, Mark Ridley Jr, Shan Royce, and Colton Harris serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial can be made in Freda’s memory to the Cookson Hills Christian School or Muskogee Salvation Army.
