Jacqueline Jo Shelton

Jacqueline Jo Shelton, age 92, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away on July 1, 2026. She was born on July 3, 1933, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to John Remy and Ruth Mabelle Carden Delmotte. Jacqueline attended Okmulgee Public Schools and graduated with the Okmulgee High School Class of 1951. She continued her education at Northeastern State University, where she earned both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in 1961. On August 13, 1954, Jacquline married David Wilburn “Spanky” Shelton in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, family, and service to others. Jacqueline devoted her professional life to education. She began her teaching career in Fort Gibson and went on to teach in Okmulgee and at Whittier before completing 23 years of dedicated service with Hilldale Public Schools. She retired in 1985, leaving behind a lasting influence on generations of elementary students. A faithful member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church for 72 years, Jacqueline attended and served with devotion in many areas of church life. She was an active member of the choir and the traveling women’s choir known as “The Joyful Tones.” She also lovingly crocheted baby quilts for the nursery and served as Vacation Bible School secretary, offering her time and talents wherever they were needed. Jacqueline will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her servant’s heart, her love of music, and her lifelong commitment to teaching and encouraging others. Her kindness, dedication, and gentle spirit touched many lives throughout her community, classroom, and church family. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Shelton; parents, John and Mabelle Delmotte; daughter, Sandi Jo Coltharp; son-in-law, Danny Coltharp; grandson, David Allen Coltharp; and great-grandson, Easton Drake Morgan. Jacqueline is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Shelton and Stacy Shelton; son, John David Shelton (Kerri); grandchildren, Bubby Morgan (Keeley), Nik Morgan, Jordan Morgan (Amber); Cristy Coltharp, Paul Coltharp (Ashley), Jeremy Coltharp (Madison); Kyle Shelton (Stephanie), Danielle Williams (Dalton) Stephanie Jo Griffith (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Kort, Dylan, Taylor, Jaxson, Beckette, Koal, Sage, Levi, Harper, Asher, Bailee, David Allen, Audrey, Barrett, Gunner, Freyja; along with other family members and friends. Jacqueline was an only child and was blessed with three great-great-grandchildren, Amelia, Isabelle, and Drake, that are part of a five-generation family. She also has 3 more on the way. Funeral services celebrating Jacqueline’s life will be at 11AM, Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Eastern Heights Baptist Church with Pastor James Easley officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with Bubby Morgan, Paul Coltharp, Nik Morgan, Kyle Shelton, Jordan Morgan, and Jeremy Coltharp serving as pallbearers.
