Jane Elizabeth "Janie" Hill

Jane Elizabeth “Janie” Hill, 76, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 25, 2021, passing peacefully in her home. She was born on April 26, 1945 to Berton Edward Whitaker and Bertha Bell (Hartman) Whitaker in Hannibal, Missouri. Janie took great pride in being 1 of 17 children. She graduated from Hannibal High School with the class of 1963. Janie married the love of her life, Howard William Hill, on April 27, 1968 in Hannibal, Missouri. They shared over 53 years of marriage, love and many memories together. She came to know the Lord at a young age and was still in touch with her childhood Sunday school teacher, Betty Todd, up until Janie’s Alzheimer’s robbed her of the ability to converse. She loved going to garage sales and enjoyed having a resale booth at Hattie’s House for many years. Janie had a generous heart of service. She spent many years teaching Sunday school, Awanas and Vacation Bible School. In her middle years, she loved to visit with her “Seniors”. Many a teenager enjoyed her cooking in the numerous years she attended Falls Creek Youth Camp as a cook. Janie loved spending time with her family. She especially loved the annual “Sisters Trip” where she had the opportunity to fellowship with her sisters and nieces. Janie will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Bertha Whitaker; sisters, Virginia, Frances, Hertha, Clara and Mary; brothers, Charles, James, Louis, John, Sam and Paul. Janie is survived by her husband, Howard of the home; son, Jason of Chicago, IL; daughter, Jennifer; chosen daughter, Bridgette Craine both of Muskogee, OK; grand dog, Cruiser; sisters, Esther Williams and husband Jack of Mexico, MO, Eve Trower and husband Larry of Frankford, MO, Ruth Markillie of Wilmington, NC, and Becky Scroggin and husband Jim of Frisco, NC; brother, David “Butch” Whitaker and wife Jessie of Centralia, MO; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Earle of Mexico, MO, Peggy Holland of Moore, OK, and Judy Hayter of Bixby, OK; brother-in-law, Fred Hill of Moore, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. A special recognition and thanks to caregiver, Lori Dyer, for taking such great care of Janie. A celebration of Janie’s life will be 12:30PM, Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Grandview Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Mike McElreath, Joe Trout, Al Hallum, Carl Boyes, Rick Nichols, and Bridgette Craine serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be John Dryer and Cindy Okeefe.
