Janet Davis

Janet Helen Davis, our loving Mom and Grammie, entered the Kingdom of Heaven May 7, 2015. She was born February 4, 1938 in Grove City, Ohio to Arthur Robert and Hazel Basha Peoples. A proud graduate of Grove City High School, class of 1956, Jan was a cheerleader, a drum majorette, and a clarinet player in the school band. A school band trip to Washington D.C. led her to meet her first husband, William E. Smith, Jr., and started their family in Takoma Park, Maryland, where their daughters, Paige Lane and Misti Kaye were born. Jan was a very efficient and organized administrative assistant at Thompson, Hine & Flory law firm, Scioto Downs Race Track, and AllTel in Columbus, Ohio while raising her daughters. She married Dean Davis in Ohio and was welcomed into his family that included his sons Greg and Dan and their families. She became part of their traditional trips to Rice Lake, Canada where she loved to fish and soak up the sun. When Jan retired, she moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to be near her daughters and grandchildren. Jan was an active member of Indian Springs Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and loved the Lord. She sang in the choir, helped in the church nursery and kitchen, and loved her church and Sunday school family who made her feel so welcome. In her retirement, Jan found ways to work and serve. She was the Secretary/Treasurer of her condominium association; a volunteer at elections, church activities, and her family’s schools and many nonprofit organizations. Jan’s hobbies included working crossword puzzles and calling Bingo at the Indian Springs Country Club. Jan adjusted to her Oklahoma home very easily and with her great sense of humor and loving nature made many friends. She treasured the new friendships she made, particularly her good friend Jim Corby and his family. Caring for her children, grandchildren and their pets, transporting, and traveling to their events, and being on call for her family earned her the nickname “Grammie 911.” Those gratefully blessed by her love are her daughters, son-in-laws, and grandchildren: Paige, Kem, & Avery Frix of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Misti, Danny, Sevannah, & Franchesca Vekas of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her twin brother and sister-in law, Jack & Lois Peoples of Marengo, Ohio; her big brother and sister Robert & Flo Peoples of Grove City, Ohio and niece, nephews, and families in Ohio; and numerous friends and family. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Katharine Frix, husband, Dean Davis, close friend, Jim Corby, and precious family and friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at the Indian Springs Baptist Church, 7815 S Elm Place, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, May 20th at 11:00 am.
