Jerry Don Chastain

Jerry Don Chastain, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2025. He was born on January 31, 1943, to Laverne L. Chastain and Mildred (Braxton) Chastain. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he attended Alice Robertson Junior High School and Muskogee Central High School. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. On October 27, 1965, Jerry married the love of his life, Nona Louise (Carr) Chastain. Together, they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, building a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion. Jerry dedicated his professional life to the Muskogee Post Office, where he served as a supervisor until his retirement in 1998. He was respected by colleagues for his integrity, work ethic, and commitment to helping others. A man of faith and fellowship, Jerry was a proud member of both the First Assembly and Evangel Assembly of God churches. His warm presence and generous spirit touched all who knew him. An avid fisherman, Jerry found joy and adventure on the water, earning recognition as a bass tournament winner. He was a member of the Greenleaf Lunker Club. Whether casting a line or telling stories of the one that got away, he cherished these moments and the friendships they brought. Jerry was also a passionate sports fan who loved watching football and basketball. Yet above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He loved each one deeply and never missed a chance to gather, celebrate, or simply enjoy their company. Jerry’s memory will be forever treasured by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all. Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife Louise; his parents, Laverne and Mildred Chastain; siblings, Raymond Lee Chastain and Carolyn Kay Chastain. He is survived by his children, Deborah Rackley of Muskogee, OK, and Greg Chastain and wife Luci of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Helen Chastain of Prague, OK; grandchildren, Nick Rackley and Drew Rackley of Dallas, TX, Annabella and Liam Chastain of Austin, TX; nephews, Damon Chastain and family of MO, Jason Chastain and family of Prague, OK, and Kelly Chastain and family of Prague, OK; niece, Kim Riggs and family of Prague, OK; and dearest fishing buddy and friend, Jerry Sturm; and many other family members and friends. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be 2:30PM, Friday, July 25, 2025 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Rev. Floyd Collins officiating.
