Born on October 20, 1954, in Muskogee, Jerry was the beloved son of Jerry and Katie (Risenhoover) Clark, whose values and spirit he carried throughout his life. Jerry’s story begins in the heart of Muskogee, where he was raised in a family that treasured integrity, hard work, and compassion. The lessons of his childhood, instilled by his parents, Jerry and Katie, shaped his character for the journey ahead. Jerry attended Muskogee public schools, where he cultivated a love for learning and a respect for knowledge. His curious mind and diligent nature led him to pursue further studies, and he proudly obtained an associate’s degree—a testament not only to his perseverance but also to his belief in education as a pathway to growth. Jerry’s commitment to service extended beyond his hometown. Answering the call of duty, Jerry became a member of the United States Army. His time in the military was marked by dedication and honor, culminating in an honorable discharge that reflects his unwavering sense of responsibility. During his service, Jerry formed bonds with fellow soldiers, demonstrated quiet leadership, and gained a deeper understanding of sacrifice and patriotism. After his military service, Jerry returned to civilian life with a renewed sense of purpose. Guided by his fascination with the natural world, he became a botanist—a career that allowed him to blend scientific inquiry with a deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of nature. Jerry’s work as a botanist enriched not only his life but also the lives of those around him, as he shared his knowledge generously and inspired others to see the wonders in the world’s flora. His career spanned decades, and in 2015, Jerry retired, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity and discovery. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Katie Clark, who remained a guiding presence in his heart, and by his brother, Donald Wayne Clark, whose memory he cherished. The love and support of family were central to Jerry’s life, and his connections extended far beyond blood relations. Jerry is survived by his brother, Jim “JC” Clark and wife Sonja of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, whose companionship and encouragement provided comfort and joy throughout the years. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Dawn Clark of Rose, Oklahoma—a steadfast presence in the family. Jerry’s spirit endures in his nieces and nephews: Jesse Clark and wife Tracy, Lindsey Bremer and husband Jeff, Jordan Hill and husband Austin, Caleb Clark and wife Rachael, Hannah Brown and husband Ryan, Laura Pritchett, and Isaac Clark. Each of them carries forward Jerry’s legacy of kindness, curiosity, and resilience. His influence can be seen in their own lives and in the stories they will share for generations. Along with these close relatives, Jerry’s memory will be honored by many other family members and friends who knew him as a generous mentor, a thoughtful confidant, and a source of strength and laughter. A life such as Jerry’s deserves to be commemorated with respect and gratitude. Family, friends, and loved ones are invited to gather for a service in his honor at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Fort Gibson National Cemetery. The ceremony, officiated by Chaplain Carter Check, will be a reflection of the impact Jerry had on all who knew him. Military honors will be presented, acknowledging his service to the nation and his enduring patriotism.
