Louretta "Mae" Windrix

Louretta Mae Windrix, 93, of Muskogee died and went home to the Lord on Tuesday, December 24, 2019. Mae was born on June 30, 1926 in Konawa, Oklahoma. Mae grew up and graduated high school in Hulbert, Oklahoma. She married Jess Willard Windrix, the love of her life, on August 22, 1946 and made their home in Muskogee. Mae attended Eastern Heights Baptist Church for the last 65 years. She accepted Christ and taught the Junior Girls Sunday school class for many years. She worked at JCPenney’s for several years and later line danced with her friends at Hatbox. She was also a member of the New Friends Club and the Muskogee Garden Club. Preceding her in death is her husband of over 46 years, Jess Willard Windrix; mother and father, Emmit Joseph Freeman and Rosie Ellen (Poindexter) Freeman; brothers, Richard, A.V. and E.J. Freeman, and great-grandson, Cody Levi Cookson. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Linda Smith of Muskogee, Oklahoma; son J.W. and Brenda Windrix of Muskogee, Oklahoma; brother, W.B. (Dub) Freeman of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Brian and Deborah Cookson of Cookson, Oklahoma, Joey Cookson of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, Jess and Denyfa Windrix of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Tabetha and Kenny Meech of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Misty Cunnius of Wagoner, Oklahoma; step-grandchildren, Samantha Thornton of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Joey and Tretha Conway of Muskogee, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Bailee and Maddie Cookson, Ashton and Rayleigh Anderson, Zachary Windrix, Jayden Windrix, Braydon Windrix, Bryce Windrix, Kellen Smith, Tyler Miller, and Easton Cunnius; step-great-grandchildren, Peyton Meech, Hannah and Caleb Thornton, Devin and Tobi Conaway, Madalyn Dobson, Betty Clegg, Maggie, Seth and Garrett Towry. Step-great-great-grandchildren, Scarlette and Hudson Meech; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will greet friends from 2:00pm-4:00pm Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A celebration of Louretta’s life will be 2:00pm Monday, December 30, 2019 at Eastern Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Darren Wallace officiating. Interment will follow at Odd Fellow’s Cemetery in Hulbert, Oklahoma with Brian Cookson, Joey Cookson, Jess Windrix, Kenny Meech, Ashton Anderson, and Zachary Windrix serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Plunkett, Larry Miller, and Don Bickel. Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 N. York Street, Muskogee, OK.
