Mary Inez Ellis

Mary Inez Ellis, 96, of Muskogee, OK passed peacefully and went home to her Creator, where she was surely welcomed by her mother, father, brothers, sisters and many more on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Inez was born August 1, 1926 in Muskogee, OK to her Father, Thomas Henry, Mother, Mary Lou (Blankenship) Henry, and a family of 7 other close brothers and sisters. Inez was a dedicated member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church, where she attended service regularly and nurtured her close relationship with God. She retired from the Muskogee Public Library as a Circulation Clerk, where she never met a stranger and made lifelong friends along the way. Inez, more affectionately known as GG, was a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her love for her family and friends was unmatched as she loved spending time with them and was known for her chocolate sheet cakes, which were a staple at each birthday, as she perfected these over 96 years (GG’s Tip… you have to sift the powdered sugar). The one exception to this was her son Mike, who always received a fresh baked apple pie. Her passions in life also included sports as she rarely missed a telecast or radio broadcast of her beloved Sooners, Thunder, or St. Louis Cardinals. If you were fortunate enough to be on the other end of one of her lengthy phone calls during any of these games, you were sure to get a play by play update as the game went on, whether you wanted one or not. If you were lucky enough to meet Inez, your life was better for it. Most important to her were God, family, and friends and she was proud to make sure everyone knew it. She will be greatly missed by friends and family, who rest easy knowing she is right where she is meant to be. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Thomas; four brothers, Leo, James, Ed, and Ray Henry; three sisters, Mable Haws, Claudia Reese, and Maudie Henry. She is survived by her son, Mike Ellis and wife Susie of Muskogee; daughter, Teresa Chapman and husband Randy of Muskogee; grandchildren, Mandy Fletcher and husband Scott of Muskogee, John Carter Ballard of McAlester, Kelsey Ralls and husband Tyler of Poteau, Kasey Smith and husband Jason of Muskogee, Krystal Hutchinson and husband Jason of Braggs, and Bobby Nordwall of Foresthill, CA; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces Mary Slape of Coweta and Sharon Shannon of Rockwall, TX; close friend Alice Moschak of Muskogee; and many other family members and friends. A celebration of Inez’s life will be 10:00AM, Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Smith officiating.
