Mary Ann Gibson

Mary Ann Gibson, 77, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 29th, 2016 at 8:50 p.m. in Tulsa, Oklahoma at St. Johns Hospital after suffering a stroke on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Mary Ann was born on April 16, 1939 in Floydada, Floyd County, Texas, the daughter of the late Ralph and Inez Barnett. One of her fondest memories was when she, her little sister Virginia and her daddy all got saved at a revival in Eloy Arizona and were baptized together. Throughout her life the salvation of her family and friends has always remained her top priority. She graduated from Hitchita High School in 1956 and married the love of her life, Carl Louis Gibson on October 5, 1957 at the Elm Grove Baptist Church. Together Mary and Carl made their home in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Mary Ann worked for Weaver Accounting for 35 years and in 1994 started her own tax accounting business; MAGCO. After retiring in 2000, Mary Ann then worked part-time for Roy Jenkins & Associates and also John Moffitt. Mary Ann was a member of the First Baptist Church Muskogee and loved her Sunday School class. She loved to paint and was a member of the Art Guild of Muskogee for several years. She started a wonderful tradition of painting Christmas bulbs for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren every year. Mary Ann had a very special group of girlfriends and they had many wonderful times together playing dominoes, going to the theater, going out to eat and other little trips. If you knew Mary Ann you knew how much she loved to shop - a skill which she regularly honed to perfection. She loved her family and was always there to help any who were in need and cooked dinner for all once a month. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Carl; daughter, Carla Cooper and her husband Steve; son, Randy Gibson and his wife Karla; daughter, Angie Cantrell and her husband Bryan; 21 grandchildren, Elizabeth Dale and her husband Jackson, Erin Young and her husband Justin, Emily Doughty and her husband Josh, Elise Clarke and her husband Eric, Heather Childress and her husband Mike, Amber Vafeas and her husband John, Ashley Scott and her husband Terry, Stevie Cooper, Alisha Campbell and her husband Danny, Nikky Pruitt and her husband Jake, Karlie Gibson and Kyle Gibson; 18 great grandchildren, Daisy Dale, Gatlin Brown, Cami Brown, Gretchen Doughty, Jackson Doughty, Yuri Hayes, Hunter Clarke, Lilli Clarke, Gabriel Clarke, Cole Hamilton, Maci Childress, Annastyn Childress, Stevie Vafeas, Alex Vafeas, Ashtyn Scott, Cooper Hackett, Gunner Campbell, and expected arrival of Sutton Pruitt; along with three brothers, Johnny Barnett and his late wife Betty of Hitchita, James Barnett and his wife Juanita of Okay, and Keith Barnett and his wife Julie of Poteau; two sisters, Charlene Himes and husband Steve of Muskogee and Virginia Stansifer and her husband Lonnie of Ft. Gibson; sister-in-law, Gwen Gibson of Muskogee; 14 nieces and nephews and many many cousins, other family members, and friends who will miss her dearly. A private all family interment will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2016 at Greenhill Cemetery followed by a celebration of life service at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Muskogee with Dr. Johnny Derouen officiating.
