Mary Allene Ross

Mary Allene ‘Pean’ Ross, 91, of Vian, OK entered Heaven’s Gates on Thursday, January 27, 2022. It all started the day she was born; the eldest daughter of Ed and Georgia Pope of Vian. It soon became evident to all that Allene was the most quiet, generous, modest, and hardworking of all the daughters. When Allene graduated from Vian High School in 1948 times were financially tough. To help make ends meet, Allene took a job at Vian State Bank as a teller and as an after-hour telephone operator. Seeking no recognition or glory for herself, no one will ever fully know how much Allene has provided for her loved ones over the years, as she would never tell a soul. It is for this reason – her compassionate and giving temperament that has never changed in the slightest bit over all these decades – that Allene holds the great esteem and affection from her friends and family members beyond what any words can describe. A few years later, in 1952, Allene married Mr. Waymon Ross. Allene remained loyal to the bank until she and Waymon went into business for themselves, creating the Ross Brothers Grocery Store. For decades, she worked as the cashier and bookkeeper for Ross Brothers Grocery and the Joy Theatre. Throughout her 46 years in business together, Allene loved what she did and seldom missed a day of work. Allene was a faithful and active Christian and member of the Vian Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting quilts, wood working, sewing, gardening, canning, and painting. She also had a great love of playing cards, especially Pitch and Canasta. She was preceded by her husband, Waymon Ross; parents, Ed and Georgia; sisters, Wanda Crouch and Glyndle Remer; and son-in-law, Jerry Dupont. She is survived by daughter, Kim Dupont of Vian, OK; granddaughter, Lindsey Byrd and husband Sam of Tahlequah, OK; great-granddaughter, Gracee; great-grandson, Asher Byrd; sister, Faye Ritter of Owasso, OK; 14 nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. A celebration of Allene’s life will be 2PM, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Vian Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Round Mountain Cemetery in Gore, OK. Serving as pallbearers will be Zach Stuckey, Kaleb Stuckey, Rob Ridgeway, Mark Holder, Greg Russell, and Michael Craighead. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Stuckey, Van Lyda, Doug Patterson, Preston Remer, Rick Smith, James Martin Ross, Myron Venable, Jim McCoy, K.C. Eubanks, and Kenny Anderson.
