Michael 'Mike' Raymond Mealer

Michael ‘Mike’ Raymond Mealer, 72, entered Heaven’s Gates on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. He was born on April 4, 1950 in Muskogee, OK to Junious ‘Pete’ Raymond Mealer and Murbleigh Hall Mealer. He attended Edison Elementary School, Whittier Elementary School, Alice Robertson Junior High, and Muskogee Central High School, graduating with the class of 1968. He continued his education at Connors State College, graduating in 1977. He then went on to further his education at Northeastern State University. Always number one in Mike’s life was God. Mike let others see the light of his Father shine through him. Mike proudly served his country as an Airman in the United States Air Force. His strong work ethic began developing at the Mealer’s Grocery Store where at a young age his job was to chip away the large blocks of ice for the soda pop box. He also swept and helped with chores at his dad’s ‘Pete Mealer’s Barber Shop’. Shortly after high school he helped build some of the highway now known as the Muskogee Turnpike. Mike’s longest career was at Oklahoma Natural Gas where he started as a meter reader and then he became a customer service technician from which he retired after thirty-five years. On Christmas Eve in 1971 he met the love of his life, Belinda Jones. He always said that he loved her first and repeated it to her often throughout the years. On Christmas Eve of 1972 they became engaged and were married on June 8, 1973. Throughout over forty-nine years of marriage theirs was an amazing love story. On September 24, 1983 they were blessed with their wonderful son, Michael Raymond Mealer II. Then on December 6, 1989 they were blessed with another wonderful son, Matthew David Mealer, which then made the family of four complete. Mike had a number of hobbies including hunting, fishing-mainly for crappie, and all sports-especially football and baseball. He loved his OU Sooner Football team! At one time Mike played on three men’s softball teams. He shared his love of sports with his family and loved nothing more than spending time with them. Mike was a member of the ONGERS. He thoroughly enjoyed the luncheons with his fellow retirees and their spouses. Mike was a great example of a husband, father, and friend. He will be truly missed by all those that loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Junious ‘Pete’ and Murbleigh Mealer; son, Michael Raymond Mealer II; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Claudia Jones; and sister-in-law, Stephanie Hill-Trotter. He is survived by his wife, Belinda Mealer of the home; son, Matthew Mealer; sister, Sharon Miller and husband Clay; brother, Richard Mealer all of Muskogee, OK; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janise and Greg Carter; nephews, Trent Hickman, Matthew Hickman, Caleb Hickman, Travis Hickman, and Tucker Carter; nieces, Brittany Mealer and Bailey Williams; and a host of other family members and friends. A celebration of Mike’s life will be 1PM, Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Mrs. Linda Sizemore officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Keith Berry, Mike Kaad, Thom Biby, Greg Carter, Tucker Carter, Mike Large, Roy Flinn, Kenneth Rozell, David Dean, and Oscar Field. A private interment will be held at a later date.
