Naoma Irene Alexander

Naoma Irene Alexander (Combs) was born on August 26, 1935 in the Shady Grove Community, east of Checotah, Oklahoma to John Wesley Combs and Ida Irene Combs Colburn. Naoma Alexander passed from death into eternal life on November 21, 2024 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Naoma is preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Reverend Marcus L. Alexander, and by both her parents John Wesley and Irene Combs Colburn. Naoma is survived by one brother, Johnny Combs and wife Molly, by six sisters, Ione Roland, Leona Hale, Norma Caywood, Jerri Patterson, Kay Brumfield, and Carol Oderio. Naoma is survived by 2 sons Marcus Alexander and wife Marsha, Kevin Alexander and wife Stacy, by one daughter Elaine Alexander, by six grandchildren, Tyson (Jennifer) and Melissa McQuay; Hunter (Jena), Katherine (Travis), Parker and Hannah Alexander. She is also survived by 10 great- grandchildren AJ, Alexys (Logan), Conner, Pierce, Jazlyn, Hayden, Hallie, Henry, Remi Rose, and Stevie Jane, and by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Naoma served in ministry with her husband Marcus pastoring churches in Checotah, Duncan, Los Angeles, CA., Lakewood, CO., Muskogee, and Tulsa. She was a graduate of Rhema Bible Training College and was a teacher strong in faith and prayer. Naoma also Served in women’s ministry leadership in the Oklahoma District Council of the Assemblies of God. She was a licensed minister with the Oklahoma District and General Council of the Assemblies of God. Naoma was also a florist and owned and operated a successful florist business in Checotah in the early 70’s. By birth Naoma was a Tribal member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Naoma will be remembered as being a great cook. Her desserts were amazing. Her Christmas punch and Chocolate fudge were a holiday tradition! MeMaw had a sweet tooth and always had a stash of candy somewhere! And the grandkids all called it “the candy drawer.” Naoma was an avid reader. She was always learning! She read the Bible daily and thrived on learning the deeper things of God! She exercised her mind by working jigsaw puzzles but her favorite was to play Sudoku. Naoma cherished being with and talking to her family. She loved her sisters and her only brother so much and enjoyed talking to them regularly. Most of all Naoma loved the Glory of God’s presence! Naoma was strong in faith, fervent in prayer, and faithful in following His commands. She was a “friend of God.” Naoma truly had a servant’s heart and a generous spirit often giving to others in need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family will receive friends from 5-7, Monday, December 2, 2024 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A celebration of Naoma’s life will be at 2PM, Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Lighthouse Christian Center in Eufaula with Pastor John Parish and Mrs. Linda Sizemore officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Eufaula with Tyson McQuay, Pierce McQuay, Conner McQuay, Hunter Alexander, Parker Alexander, Travis Hargrove, Logan Whitlock, and Adrian “AJ” Gastelum serving as pallbearers.
