Roger J. Phillips

Roger Joe Phillips, 74, of Bixby, Oklahoma passed away Friday, June 30, 2023. He was born July 13, 1948 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Carl Dempsey and Agnes Marie (Moschner) Phillips. He attended public schools and graduated from Greenwood High School with the class of 1966. He furthered his education at Westark Jr. College attending for two years before he became a member of the United States Army. Roger proudly served his country in Germany and Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to college graduating from Northeastern State University in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Roger married Vann Carolyn Ball on August 5, 1972 in Russellville, Arkansas. They shared more than 50 years of life, marriage and memories together. Roger worked as a public accountant having his own private practice for many years. He was the controller for Lin Lar Golf Course (Cobblestone Golf Course) during its construction phase. He worked for Optronics Inc. as the accountant and controller. He finished his career at the Veterans Administration in the Veteran Education Department and retired in 2012. Roger was an avid bass fisherman and was a member of the Muskogee Bass Club for many years. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Agnes Phillips; and his infant daughter Shelley Nicole Phillips. Roger is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Phillips of the home; daughter, Leslie Phillips Araskog and husband Nate of Tulsa, their children Piper Meade, Cole Araskog, Andrew Araskog; son, Sean Phillips of Bixby, his children Lani Phillips and Maxwell Phillips; sister, Janis Hogan and husband Don of Jenny Lynn, AR; brother-in-law, Charles M. Ball of Russellville, AR; nieces and nephews, Jeff Beshears and wife Georgette, Greg Beshears and wife Aime, Kevin Beshears and wife Tiffany, Aubree Sowells and husband Phillip, Nick Hogan and wife Amber, along with numerous great nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. The family requests patriotic dress for the celebration of Roger’s life. His interment will be at 12:30 PM, Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with military honors being presented followed by a memorial service at 2 PM at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel.
