Ron J. Neves

Ronald Joe Neves, a mountain of a man, departed this life on August 27, 2012 in Tulsa, OK surrounded by his loving family. Left behind to cherish his memory is his best friend, life partner and beloved companion of the home, Susan Callison; his beloved sons, Joseph Neves, his wife Erica of Fort Gibson, precious grandsons, Joseph and Easton Neves of Fort Gibson and his beloved son, Ronald Joe Neves, Jr. of Angleton, TX. His sons and grandsons were the treasures of his life. He is also survived by his brother Caroll Gene Neves and his wife Donna of Midland, TX; his niece Jennifer Ramsel and her children Austin and Hannah all of Midland, TX.; his nephew, Cameron Neves and wife Stephanie of Houston, TX and their children, Christopher, Ashley and John Neves; his great nieces, Brianne and Shelby Croft of Austin, TX.; his Aunt Shirley Hanson of Midland, TX.; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Jean Callison and Larry Sanders; Bob and Debbie Callison and their children and grandchildren; his niece and beloved friend, Brandy Wheeler and her husband, Terry and great nephew, Bradley Dillon. He also leaves behind many, many friends and neighbors along with his two dogs, Willie and Frankie. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Allen Neves, his mother, Marjorie Lavonia Potts, his sister Karen Elaine Neves-Fryar and his niece Dana Neves-Croft all of Texas. Ron was born in Rotan, TX on February 25, 1950. He attended Brady High School and graduated in 1968 where he was a star athlete and was offered 173 scholarships. Ron played football for Texas A&M, Texas State, and played in the El Paso Sun Bowl as middle linebacker. He then transferred on scholarship to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He played middle linebacker for the NSU Redman football team. He was #51. He graduated Northeastern State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Education with a Major in Health and Physical Education. He is a member of Northeastern Oklahoma University Alumni Association. After graduation Ron coached football at numerous schools including Muskogee, Porter and Hilldale High Schools and Clute Schools in Texas where he led his student athletes to many victories. He served as a Deputy Sheriff in Brazoria County, TX and also with the Corp of Engineers as a park ranger. Ron was a man who wore many hats. He loved to coach and assisted many students in obtaining college scholarships. Ron was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, and loved to hunt along with his sons, Joseph and Ronnie, brother, Gene, and friend, Brian Scott in Texas. He was known for his sharp wit and humor, and love of country music. He believed himself to be the luckiest man on earth and said many times he was lucky to have had the life he had. Ron was a humble person, who never spoke of his many accomplishments. His most important accomplishment was his family. Ron was a big man with a booming voice and a soft heart. A light has gone out in our lives and we will always cherish the times and memories we have.
