Shirley Anne Roth

Above all things, Shirley Anne Roth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose love and faith shaped generations. She met her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 3rd, holding the hand of her son and surrounded by friends and family. She was born to Harry and Sybil Hoover on June 2, 1935 and was married in 1953 to her high school sweetheart, A.J., beginning a loving partnership that spanned a lifetime. Together they built a family that was the center of her world. She was the devoted mother of three children: Quaye, Spencer, and Darla, and the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who brought her endless joy. For all who knew Shirley, she will be remembered for her faith, love, quick wit, contagious laugh and her standard “Hi Hon!” greeting, and for a few special friends, “Sister.” Shirley loved the simple routines that made life special. She never missed her weekly trip to have her hair done, and she treasured her regular breakfasts with her son at Anna’s Coffee Cup. She loved sharing coffee, a sweet treat and a tidbit of gossip. She especially enjoyed playful banter with her granddaughter, Becca, who was deeply devoted to Shirley’s health and happiness for many years. A lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shirley was deeply devoted to her faith. She was a faithful member of the Altar Society and a tireless volunteer at the church. She was also a steadfast supporter of the Catholic school, always believing in the importance of faith-based education and the strength of her parish community. Professionally, Shirley worked as a medical office manager, where she was known for her organization, kindness, and steady presence. She was a graduate of Central High School and carried the values she learned there throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sybil and Harry; husband, A.J.; daughters, Quaye and Darla; sister, Gloria; nephew, Brett Berner; great-nephews, Jarrett and Nick Crossland; and niece, April Hoover. She is survived by her son, Spencer and daughter-in-law Missy; grandchildren, Meagan Sinclair (Kevin), Rebecca Beaty, Brianne Weeks (Nick), Jason Freeling (Melissa) Jenny Willard (Aaron), Kelcie Eaton (Andrew) John Engelbrecht (Matt), and Keelie Nail (Dakota); her brother, Jim (Vinnie); special nieces, Cheryl Crossland (Gary), Heather Hoover; nephews, Wally Berner, Bert Hoover and Derek Hoover (Carrie); sons-in-law, Tommy Engelbrecht and Terry Milan; grand nieces, Ashlee Adair (Jeff), Claudia Evans (Jimmy); grand nephew, Cort Berner (LeeAnn); Cousin Extraordinaire, Regina Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Bailee, Parker (Libby), Andy, Kara, Beckett, Kennedy, Jentry, Jasmine (Brady), Aubrey, Anthony, Kamye, Ava, Braden, Josey and Nora. Shirley will be remembered for her warm spirit, her deep faith, and the love she shared so freely with everyone around her. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to caregivers Rachel Bruce, Adrianna Tamez, Makenzie Bolding, Gaby Ingles, Cortney Christianson and Ann Hoffman that provided such compassionate care during Shirley’s final days. Their kindness, patience and dedication brought great comfort not only to Shirley but also to her family. A special thank you is extended to the Hospice team at Elara Caring Hospice and the staff at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home, whose gentle support and guidance helped surround her with dignity, peace, and love. The family is deeply grateful for the care and compassion shown during this difficult time. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be at 1PM, Monday, March 9, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John O’Neill celebrant. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with Jason Freeling, John Engelbrecht, Aaron Willard, Bert Hoover, Nick Weeks, Erich Crossland, Andrew Eaton, Dakota Nail, and Terry Milan serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Dunlap, David Dunlap, Jim Hoover, and Tommy Engelbrecht. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Joseph Endowment Fund, in honor of her lifelong faith and devotion to her parish community.
