Susie McEntyre

Susie McEntyre, 95, longtime resident of Muskogee, entered Heaven’s gates Thursday evening, January 3, 2019 with her children by her side. She was born March 3, 1923 to Perry Lee and Susie (McLaughlin) Ellis in Braggs, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended the public schools. On January 31, 1948, Susie married the love of her life, Perry Leslie McEntyre. Together, they shared almost 30 years of marriage and life together until his death in 1977. Her family was her priority in life; she loved cooking and making sure everyone was well fed and educated. Her children recall that she enjoyed playing cards and board games; spades was a particular favorite game she liked. Her family also recalls that she enjoyed having a cup of coffee and listening to Billy Graham’s sermons. She especially loved spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She received a 25 year certificate for teaching at the Nazarene Church, where she was a longtime member. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Susie Ellis; her husband, Leslie; her sisters, May, Bertha, Maudie, Martha, Carrie, Alphie, and Della; her brothers, Hugh, Sheryl, Floyd and William; and her grandson, Derry Smith. Susie is survived by her children, Dearl McEntyre and wife Kathy of Okay, Connie Smith and husband Mike, Terry Smith and husband Clayton and Tony McEntyre and wife Denise all of Muskogee; her grandchildren and their spouses, Greg Smith and wife Kim, Susan Hight and husband Jim, Jeremy Travis and wife Brittany, Crystal Compton and husband Chris, Mark McEntyre and wife Amanda, Sarah Price and husband Alton, Joel McEntyre and wife Cherise, Becky Jacobs and husband James, and Billy Jones and wife Kristie; 26 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; her sisters, Evelyn Lester and husband Kenneth of Braggs and Mamie Jones of Shreveport, LA; numerous other family members and many friends. Susie’s family will receive friends on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. A celebration of Susie’s life will be Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Kevin Rogers officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Travis, Chris Compton, Jim Hight, Gregory Smith, Billy Jones, James Jacobs, Mark McEntyre, Joel McEntyre and Alton Price. Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 N. York Street, Muskogee, OK.
