Virginia D. Stockton

Virginia Darlene Stockton, born December 12th, 1930, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Charlie and Nina Mae Crittenden, passed away peacefully at home on May 5th, 2025, with Steve and Tawnya by her side. Some knew her as Virginia but those closest to her knew her as Mom, Granny, and Genner. Her early years in the Oklahoma countryside instilled in her a love of the outdoors, horses, and the western way of life. However, the most important thing to Genner was her family. This all began from her birth at THE HILL the meeting place for our family for over 100 years. Some family activities were spent riding horses and going downtown only spending a quarter to watch a movie and eat dinner. On June 27th, 1953, Virginia married the love of her life, Bobby Lee Stockton, celebrating 65 years of marriage together in 2018. Together they built a beautiful life, frequently traveling to Montana and many other places. After becoming a proud mother to her daughter, Brenda Hinds, Bobby and Genner moved to Chicago for a few years eventually deciding to move back to THE HILL where she lived out the rest of her days. She cherished her role as a matriarch, passing down wisdom, warmth, and her famous remedies—castor oil, camphor, and Vicks vapor rub were always her go-to solutions. Genner had a remarkable career as a registered surgical nurse, dedicating herself to the care and well-being of others. Her compassion and skill left a permanent mark on the lives of her patients and colleagues. In her later years Genner had a soft spot for her beloved dog, Molly Mae, who was her loyal companion. If you ever came to THE HILL you could find Granny in her favorite chair watching a western. The memories of Granny that no one will forget were her fried eggs, biscuits and gravy, getting rocked by granny, reflexology, Sunday lunches with the family, and the love she showed to us all. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Stockton; daughter, Brenda Kay Hinds; brother, Charlie Crittenden and his wife Nan; sisters, Mone Hensley and husband Jack, and Bugs Holland; and parents, Charlie and Nina Mae Crittenden. Virginia leaves behind to cherish her memory, son-in-law, Jerry Hinds; grandkids, Steven Hinds and wife Tawnya of Jenks, Kimberly Royse and husband Kevin of Muskogee, Jonathan “Tyler” Hinds and wife Annette of California; great-grandkids, Isabella, Heath, and Stockton Hinds, Seth Chapuis and wife Alexis, Kelsey, Matthew and wife DeMya, Andrew and Kailyn Chapuis, Brenlyn and Kynslee Royse, Luna and Zoe Hinds; great-great-grandkids, Cosette, Finnick, and Jovie Chapuis, Emerson and Shiloh Chapuis; along with other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A celebration of Virginia’s life will be at 10AM, Friday, May 9, 2025 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel.
